What is Cosmetic Tattooing?
Cosmetic Tattooing is a semi-permanent cosmetic treatment where we implant pigment into the skin using a single-use needle cartridge. The pigment used during your treatment complies with the EU 2022 Regulations for Pigment Safety in accordance with Australian Regulations. Hello Honey holds a Skin Penetration License and abides by the Queensland Laws- it is important to me when considering the health and safety of everyone.
Every treatment is tailored to the individual client to enhance their personal features. Skin tone, facial structure and natural brow shape are all carefully considered in design development to ensure the outcome perfectly enhances the client's unique features.
Does it hurt?
We use a specially formulated anaesthetic cream to pre-numb the area, and an in-treatment anaesthetic gel to keep you comfortable throughout your treatment. The anaesthetic used for your treatment is organised through a compounding pharmacy. As a part of the pre-treatment preparation you will be required to order and pay for your own anaesthetic prescription prior to your appointment, this product can be sent directly to Hello Honey, ready for your appointment day.
How long does it last?
Each individual’s final result is unique. This greatly depends on several factors, but generally you can expect your Cosmetic Tattoo to last between 9 months and 3 years before you would be looking to come in for a 'maintenance' or 'colour boost' appointment.
Different things affect the longevity of a Cosmetic Tattoo such as colour selection, skin type, genetics, metabolism, skin care, smoking, hormones, medications, environmental factors, exposure to the sun, Laser and IPL treatments, use of glycolics, your attendance at the follow up appointment & following the Post Procedure Care instructions correctly.
Ultimately, Cosmetic Tattooing is semi-permanent and designed to fade, and we want it to fade as this will give softer results for your face. It's low maintenance, not no maintenance.
How long does it take to heal?
One of the big questions and hesitations when it comes to Cosmetic Tattooing is about the healing process - how long it takes and what to expect.
Day 1: Immediately after your Cosmetic Tattoo will be at it's darkest and thickest. The colour will fade by about 40-60% as the area heals.
Day 4: The area will continue to look dark until around day 4, when you can expect some flaking, shedding and itchiness. This is all a part of the healing process and your technician will explain more about this during your treatment.
Day 10+: The area will be much lighter! The colour almost looks like it disappears in some cases, and this is probably when people freak out the most about the colour but it is all a part of the natural healing process.
Day 15: After 2 weeks, you will begin to get more of an indication as to the healed colour of your cosmetic tattoo. The colour will come back and be about 40-60% of the initial intensity. The surface of the area should be healed, but it will still be 2-4 weeks before the area has completely fully healed.

AFTER CARE SCHEDULE
Please read the following after care instructions carefully, clients who do not follow these instructions or with weakened immune systems may require additional appointments to achieve perfection.
After care balm is to be used minimum of 2x a day until all peeling/flaking is over.
✨ Day 1- Fresh tattoo. Looks good, possibly dark, hurts like a sunburn & feels tight. BLOT brows with a clean wet cotton round that has been provided to you (first 2-4 hrs, as needed) to absorb any excess lymph (clear/yellow fluid). Apply after care balm (micro balm) to keep them moist throughout the day until you shower/go to bed.
✨ Day 2- Oxidisation. Brows look scary, dark & swelling can alter the shape during healing. CLEAN brows gently when you shower with a mild cleanser. If you get them wet in the shower don’t panic - a splash of water is fine, please don’t drench them. Dab dry after the shower & reapply the micro balm.
✨ Day 3-5. Brows feel tight. Healing wound has dried out- make sure you are HYDRATING with extremely thin layer of the aftercare balm given to you (min 1-2 times a day, as needed) if brows feel tight / dry. Dab off excess. Please do not use any other product on them.
✨ Day 6-10. Cracking & Flaking. The thin scaling is pulling apart & flaking away like dandruff or looking like fish food flakes. Brows underneath will look a lot lighter & colour will still be settling. Please be patient - the colour is still settling into the skin & can take a few weeks for the “true” colour to come through. After you peel, you may feel like you’ve lost a lot of colour. You are NOT permitted to use any brow pencil/make up over your brows until a week after your tattoo has stopped flaking.
🍂KEEP BROWS DRY- You are permitted to gently cleanse in the shower but BLOT dry (never rub with a towel) Avoid heavy sweating, saunas, swimming, etc. until brows have finished the flaking process / up to 14 days post procedure (whichever occurs first).
🍂DO NOT PICK/PULL at scabs/flakes - let them flake naturally (usually 7-10 days post procedure). If brows feel itchy, tap, do not scratch.
🍂PROTECT your face by sleeping on your back. Do not wear makeup on or close to brows during the healing process. Do not expose brows to direct sun while healing. After healing, always cover / wear SPF on the brows, as UV rays can fade/shift colour over time.
🍂INFORM aesthetic/medical professionals that you have had a cosmetic tattoo done in a licensed facility, e.g. if you are having laser treatments/donating blood.
